Commercial-document attestation depends on the document, issuer and intended use. Foreign company certificates, MOAs, resolutions and contracts usually require certification in their issuing country, UAE mission attestation and UAE MoFA processing. UAE-issued digital corporate documents may qualify for digital attestation. Commercial invoices and certificates of origin use MoFA's separate eDAS 2.0 service.
Important: A commercial invoice should not be routed as a general corporate document. Confirm the recipient and service before paying fees.
| Document | Typical purpose | Likely issuing party | Route to confirm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Certificate of incorporation | Prove foreign company existence | Corporate registrar | Foreign corporate route |
| Memorandum or articles | Prove constitution and powers | Registrar/company | Foreign or UAE corporate route |
| Board resolution | Authorise formation, banking or transaction | Company board | Corporate attestation/notary route |
| Certificate of incumbency/good standing | Prove officers or status | Registrar/agent | Foreign corporate route |
| Contract or agreement | Evidence commercial obligations | Contracting parties | Notary/attestation as recipient requires |
| Commercial invoice | Customs or commercial use | Exporter/seller | eDAS 2.0 |
| Certificate of origin | Prove origin of goods | Chamber/competent issuer | eDAS 2.0 |
| Commercial power of attorney | Delegate transaction authority | Company/principal | POA execution and attestation route |
The intended use controls the route. A bank, court, licensing authority and customs authority may ask for different forms of the same record.
The common chain is:
For a foreign corporate shareholder, prepare the complete ownership and authority chain rather than attesting isolated pages. Use the UAE business-setup document checklist.
UAE-issued corporate records may first require licensing-authority, notary, chamber or other certification. Eligible original digital documents with a verification mechanism can use MoFA's digital process.
MoFA's current eligible digital examples include trade licences, commercial registrations, board resolutions, meeting minutes, contracts, financial statements, partnership certificates and commercial powers of attorney (MoFA).
Digital eligibility is document-specific. A PDF scan of a signed paper resolution is not necessarily an original verifiable digital document.
MoFA's Electronic Documents Attestation System, eDAS 2.0, is the dedicated service for commercial invoices and certificates of origin issued in the UAE or abroad. Businesses register using the trade licence, review invoice or COO data, pay the fee and receive digital attestation (MoFA eDAS).
As reviewed on 14 June 2026, MoFA publishes AED 150 per invoice or certificate of origin and a two-minute automated service estimate. These published figures can change and do not include preparation or upstream costs.
Do not route a board resolution or MOA through eDAS merely because it supports a trade transaction.

Bank attestation requests do not replace bank KYC. The bank can still ask for ownership, business, source-of-funds and transaction evidence under its own review. See the corporate bank-account guide.
No. The requirement depends on the intended use and receiving authority.
No. eDAS is specifically for commercial invoices and certificates of origin.
Not necessarily. Later amendments, registers or incumbency records may also be needed.
Capitals28 can classify the document, map foreign and UAE certification steps, and coordinate attestation or legal translation within its stated scope. Legal sufficiency and recipient acceptance may require separate review.
