What citizenship in Antigua and Barbuda can offer

Citizenship provides a national connection to an Eastern Caribbean state, with the option to make the islands part of your family’s future. Several generations may qualify together, although each dependant must satisfy the relevant rules.

Antigua and Barbuda permits dual citizenship. Keeping your existing nationality also depends on its country’s laws. A second passport does not itself change tax residence or remove obligations where you live, work or hold assets.

Travel rules are destination-specific. Antigua and Barbuda nationals are listed as eligible for the UK electronic travel authorisation route for eligible visits, subject to the applicable conditions and exemptions. Short-stay travel arrangements do not grant a right to live or work abroad.

Schengen visits allow 90 days in any 180-day period. Obtain UK ETA, eVisas and other authorisations before departure. Some visas need sponsorship; Belarus’ exemption covers designated airports only.

Canada’s conditional eTA requires a Canadian visitor visa within the past ten years or a valid US non-immigrant visa, plus air travel, so Canada is excluded. These routes do not grant residence or work rights. Recheck destination and transit rules before booking. Reviewed: 23 October 2026.

Eligibility and family inclusion in Antigua and Barbuda

Assess the principal applicant and each dependant before choosing an investment or calculating the family total.

Adult principal applicant

The main applicant must be at least 18 and satisfy the qualifying investment and application conditions.

Background and financial checks

A lawful funding trail, medical records and full disclosure of criminal, immigration and visa history form part of the assessment.

Spouse and dependent children

A spouse and financially dependent children through age 30 may qualify, with supporting relationship and dependency evidence.

Parents and grandparents

Parents or grandparents of the applicant or spouse aged 55 or over may qualify where financially dependent on the principal applicant.

Unmarried siblings

An unmarried sibling of the main applicant or spouse may be included, subject to the programme’s documentation and assessment.

Other dependant circumstances

Adult children with qualifying disabilities and later family additions have specific rules. Confirm eligibility and fees for the individual case.

The Antigua and Barbuda citizenship application process

Five stages, with the licensed agent coordinating the file and the government making the citizenship decision.

  1. 01
    Profile and route assessment

Review your family, nationality, funding and priorities. Compare the four routes and confirm the licensed agent, budget and applicable conditions.

    Step 1 Initial review
  2. 02
    Documents and investment planning

Prepare the supporting records and certifications. For property or business routes, check the approved investment and contractual arrangements.

    Step 2 Preparation
  3. 03
    Submission, screening and interview

The licensed agent submits the application with the required initial charges. Government checks and the required interview are completed, with follow-up evidence supplied where requested.

    Step 3 Official review
  4. 04
    Approval and qualifying payment

Following approval, complete the contribution or investment and outstanding charges within the official payment instructions. Retain the transfer and investment evidence.

    Step 4 On approval
  5. 05
    Registration, oath and passport

Complete the citizenship registration and oath arrangements, then passport processing. Record the stay, renewal and compliance obligations applying to the family.

    Step 5 Completion

Plan for the stay requirement

A remotely prepared application does not remove the conditions that follow citizenship. The CIU’s published guidance describes at least five days in Antigua and Barbuda during the first five calendar years.

The 2025 regional regulatory framework sets out a thirty-day aggregate presence requirement and integration obligations. Its application is linked to entry into force, provisional application and transitional rules.

Before filing, obtain written confirmation of the conditions that apply to your application date and family, including individual attendance requirements. Keep travel and compliance records for passport renewal and later checks.

Programme fees beyond the qualifying investment

Obtain an itemised quotation for the selected route and every person included. The minimum contribution is not an all-in price.

Government processing

For the NDF, property and business routes, the published fee starts at USD 10,000 for one applicant or USD 20,000 for up to four. Additional dependants increase the charge.

Due diligence

The published schedule lists USD 8,500 for the main applicant, USD 5,000 for a spouse, USD 2,000 for dependants aged 12–17 and USD 4,000 for adult dependants.

Interviews and passports

Include interview charges and passport issuance. The current published passport fee is USD 300 per person; confirm the interview arrangements and charge in the quotation.

Preparation and ownership costs

Allow for medical records, translations, legalisation, professional support, banking and travel. Property or business ownership creates separate legal, operating and exit costs.

Antigua and Barbuda citizenship: common questions

Investment choices, family costs, application requirements and conditions after approval.

What is the minimum investment for citizenship?

The NDF route starts at USD 230,000. Approved property starts at USD 300,000. The UWI Fund starts at USD 260,000 for a family of at least six. Business investment requires USD 1,500,000 individually, or at least USD 400,000 per investor within a qualifying USD 5,000,000 joint project. Other programme costs apply.

Does the NDF figure include all family fees?

No. The published NDF contribution is USD 230,000 per application, but processing, due diligence, passport and other charges are separate. A larger family can therefore have a higher total even where the contribution remains the same.

When is the UWI Fund worth considering?

It is available for a minimum of six applicants. The USD 260,000 contribution includes processing for six, with an additional processing charge for further dependants. One family member is entitled to a one-year tuition-only scholarship. Compare the full family quotation with the NDF route.

Can I buy any property and sell it immediately?

No. The property must be an approved qualifying investment. The published holding period is five years after purchase, subject to the stated approved-property replacement provision. Review the specific contract and programme conditions; neither resale nor investment returns are guaranteed.

How long does the citizenship process take?

Plan in months rather than weeks. The route, document readiness, family circumstances, screening and investment completion affect the timetable. Ask for a current case estimate before committing; a government decision date cannot be guaranteed.

Can I complete the application without ever visiting?

Do not treat remote document preparation as a no-visit commitment. Citizenship carries physical-presence obligations, and the regional framework introduces additional stay and integration conditions. Confirm the applicable rules and any transitional treatment in writing before filing.

Can children, parents and siblings be included?

Qualifying family members include a spouse, dependent children through age 30, financially dependent parents or grandparents aged 55 or over, and unmarried siblings. Each category has evidence requirements, with separate provisions for some adult children and later family additions.

Can I keep my nationality and travel freely to the UK?

Antigua and Barbuda allows dual citizenship, but your current country’s law must also be checked. Eligible UK visits generally require an ETA unless an exemption applies. The passport does not provide unrestricted UK entry, residence or employment rights.

Can I submit an application directly to the government?

Applications are handled through a licensed agent. Capitals28 can assist with preparation and coordination, while the Citizenship by Investment Unit conducts the official assessment and determines the outcome.
